A low-profile metamaterial loaded antenna array with anti-interference and polarization reconfigurable features is proposed for base-station communication. Owing to the dual notches etched on the radiating electric dipoles, an impedance bandwidth of 75.6% ranging from 1.68 to 3.72 GHz with a notch band from 2.38 to 2.55 GHz can be achieved. By employing the metamaterial loadings that are arranged in the center of the magnetic dipole, the thickness of the proposed antenna can be decreased from 28 to 20 mm. Furthermore, a serial feeding network that consists of several wilkinson power dividers and phase shifters is introduced to attain the conversion between dual linear polarization and triple circular polarization. Hence, the antenna could meet the demand of the future 5G intelligent application.
Botao Feng (M’14) received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in communication engineering from the Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Chongqing (CQUPT), China, in 2004 and 2009, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in communication and information system from the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), Beijing, China, in 2015. He joined the Dongguan Branch of Nokia Mobile Phones Ltd., China, as a Senior Communication Engineer in 2004. He joined China United Network Communications Co. Ltd., from 2009 to 2012, where he was involved in the optimization of mobile network. He is currently a Postgraduate Advisor and a Post-Doctoral Advisor with Shenzhen University, Guangdong, China. He is also the head of the Laboratory of Wireless Communication, Antennas and Propagation of College of Electronic Science and Technology, Shenzhen University, the Director of the Joint Laboratory of Antenna and Electromagnetic Propagation of Shenzhen University-Rihai Communication Technology Co., Ltd, and the Director of the Joint Laboratory of Antenna and Microwave Technology of Shenzhen University-Skywave Communication Technology Co., Ltd. His research interests are base-station antenna, microcell antenna, indoor antenna, and wireless network optimization. He has authored more than 30 SCI and EI indexed papers, and has 10 invention patents. In addition, he is the Peer Reviewer and Technical Committee Member of several IEEE/IET journals and conferences on microwave technique and antenna. Now, he and his team members are conducting over 10 projects about 5G antenna which are supported by natural science funds and corporate founds.
